Last month I read a fascinating book called Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief (by Lawrence Wright). While the Church of Scientology denies all claims made in the book, Wright has only shared what others have told him and he did an excellent job of showing both sides of the story.
If your beliefs break
against political art,
they’re not strong enough.
If you have to kill
to avenge your religion,

Going Clear is a well-researched book that looks into L. Ron Hubbard’s life, the foundations of Scientology, and its connection to well-known celebrities. It’s very balanced – for every assertion from someone who has left the church there’s at least one opposing viewpoint from a higher-up within Scientology. I feel like Wright did an excellent job of showing both sides.
I haven’t posted any book reviews in a few days so I didn’t want anyone to think I’m a slacker! I’m still working my way through Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief by Lawrence Wright. I’m about a third of the way finished with the book and hope to complete it by the end of the week.
